The Yamaha DX100 is a miniature FM synth from the mid 80s. It's similar in sound to the famous DX7 but grittier and tougher, due to its overdrive-able DAC. In fact, it has a similar vibe to the SP-1200. It is the sound of early Detroit techno (specifically the Solid Bass patch), Roger Troutman's talkbox (the Hard Brass patch), countless 80s Lynch-esc soundtracks, hotel lounge vibes and so much more.

The Yamaha DX7 is a legendary FM synthesizer released in the early 1980s. It’s one of the most influential synths of all time and it defined the sound of an entire decade: clean, bright, and unmistakably digital, thanks to its 6-operator FM architecture and pristine DAC. Unlike the DX100, the DX7 has a more polished and refined character, with a hi-fi quality that made it a studio standard.

Yamaha SY-55 (430 Words) The Yamaha SY-55 was released a year after their TG550 Tone Generator and apart from the attached keyboard, these two share a lot of similarities. The SY-55 is a digital workstation that is based on samples-playback and also one of the first rompler workstations by Yamaha to ditch the DX7 FM synthesis.
It is a 2nd generation 16-bit AWM2 system that makes use of wave data digitally at 32kHz or 48 kHz. The SY-55 also has 24-bit internal signal processing capabilities along with high-res 22-bit digital-to-analog converters.

The SY22 is one of these digital synthesizers with a thin metallic sound. It uses a synthesis method known as vector synthesis (similar to that on the ProphetVS and Korg Wavestation) in which samples and FM sounds (adapted from Yamaha's DX line) are altered and combined using the on-board joystick to create new and often interesting sounds. Joystick moves can be recorded and repeated too, a feature rarely seen until the JP-8000 came!

The K1ii was the first major update to Kawai's popular K1 digital PCM-waveform synthesizers. The K1ii has the same synthesis architecture as the original K1. There are 256 digital samples of waveforms, 50 of which are from acoustic instruments. You combine up to four wave shapes to create very new and unique sounds. They are capable of very good acoustic recreation, excellent unique synth sounds, or at times completely noisy walls of complex sound.

Yamaha released its RX8 drum machine in 1989 intending to offer a low-cost alternative to their RX5. Despite aiming it at the low end of the market to compete with the likes of the Alesis HR-16, the RX8 still offers a lot of features from the RX5. However, it has a sound of its own, which is mostly thanks to the fact that it is the first drum machine by Yamaha to use 16-bit PCM samples. This was rather impressive for the time, especially as Yamaha was able to offer it at a price below that of the competition.
